BeautyBay Wilderness Palette Review

Over the last week I’ve been enjoying another one of BeautyBay’s limited release palettes. This time around it’s the Wilderness color story! I picked this one up at the end of 2021, so it’s (sadly) no longer available at the time of this post…however a great alternative is the new Earthly Palette. The Wilderness palette cost me $18 USD, which is what you can expect from all of their limited releases. So, lets dive into the review!

The Packaging

As always with BeautyBay’s palettes, they are a slim design containing 20 shades with a large mirror; great for seeing your face in full when a hand mirror isn’t…handy. I always enjoy the packaging designs as they are lovely and give you an idea of the ‘theme’ of the color story. Each palette is wrapped in bubble wrap and tucked inside the unit carton. The carton’s are made extra wide to accommodate the padding.

Swatches

Now, for the fun part! This palette features both metallic shimmers and creamy matte shades for a good mix and color range. As you can imagine, it has earth toned shades of greens, blues and brown. I think this color palette works well for a variety of skin tones. You can create neutral everyday looks AND bold daring ones too. I like versatility. This comes in handy when you are traveling and have to choose only one palette to bring along.

Here’s a break down of all the shades:

  1. Snow – matte ivory cream color; no shimmer.

  2. Sky – bright matte sky blue

  3. Ray – duo chrome yellow gold shimmer with green shift

  4. Twilight – deep matte royal blue

  5. Ocean – duo chrome periwinkle with green shimmers

  6. Forest – matte forest green shade

  7. Breeze – duo chrome minty green with golden shift

  8. Mint – light matte mint green shade

  9. Moss – shimmery emerald green metallic shade

  10. Ivy – very dark greenish-black shade

  11. Lime – shimmery lime green metallic shade

  12. Leaf – matte light olive green; no shimmer

  13. Eucalyptus – matte dark olive green shade

  14. Marigold – matte mustard yellow shade

  15. Fossil – champagne rose gold metallic

  16. Poppy – bright red orange matte shade

  17. Raw – matte rustic brown shade

  18. Heat – metallic red

  19. Earth – matte camel brown shade

  20. Sunrise – matte burnt orange shade

Final Thoughts

Rating: 4/5

Overall I really enjoyed this palette! Blending was a dream with the smooth matte shades and pigmentation was never an issue with these shimmery metallics. However, the palette does lose one point for transition shades and usage of neutral tones. There are only two brown (or close to brown shades) and I think it really could have benefitted from a deep/dark chocolate brown (wether it be matte or shimmer). The shade Poppy and Raw look very similar on the eyes with my skin tone and it could have been avoided. Nevertheless I enjoyed using this palette and will continue to do so, with other palette shades close-by.
